Mission failure

Dr Arvind Dubey
(101 word science fiction)

For centuries they were living in peace in their dark universe. For last few years they were facing the menace of alien attacks. However every time they foiled it.
It was third time they saw an alien ship hovering in their Dark Skies.
They shot the ship which tumbled and crashed. Again an Alien attack was averted successfully.
On earth chief of space organization was briefing the press, "I do not know why we lost contact with our lander in last minutes its soft descent on darker side of the moon. We are analyzing the data to find out the cause."

Yeti

Dr Arvind Dubey

(101 word science fiction)

“How was your mission Earth, captain Zaro”, asked space head of planet Shiea.
“fairly Successful, we studied the Earth in detail.
“Good…….”
“Inhabitants of Earth were on the verge of devastation. They were destroying the biodiversity, polluting environment and warming the planet.”
“So we can have it for mining in next few centuries. How your new earth lander worked?
“Wonderful, nobody recognized it, as it was shaped like an enormous earthling. Its bipedal movement confused them because its impressions on ice were looked like foot prints of an enormous human being. No wonder they were calling it Yeti, an abominable huge snowman.”

Preamble for this story
Stories of a yeti, or an abominable snowman, have been entrenched in Himalayan folklore for hundreds of years - but there has never been any definitive proof of its existence. Many theories have been put forward - that the yeti is a man, a beast or simply a myth - but little scientific evidence to back up any of these claims.

Valantine Day: A Beating Retreat

Humanoid resource director Albenia pushed that pen drive into the player, which Alisha had handed over to her.

Beautiful love sonnet came alive, shattering the calm of her office. Quickly she put it off.
She threw an inquiring look over the Alisha standing in front of her.
"When Agasi presented it to you?"
"Yesterday, on Valentine Day."
"You can go now."
Alisha exited.
Albenia thought for a while then opened her personal computer. She typed a message to humanoid workshop supervisor Geoffry, "humanoid Agasi has acquired emotional impurity in its program, reprogram him or dismantle him”, and pressed the “send” button.

Will artificial intelligence acquire emotions? May be, then this scenario may be common.
However, Ray Kurzweil predicts that computers will pass Turing’s test by 2029, exhibiting intelligent behavior (intelligence, self-awareness, emotional richness ...) indistinguishable from that of a human.
Note that to pass the Turing’s test we do not only have the aspect of AI, but also many learning mechanisms. Here the deep-learning algorithms that enable continuous improvement of learning as more data are available will be crucial. This will force many difficult ethical decisions to be made regarding technology, especially when involving human data.

Trapped in the Space

“Sorry we cannot welcome you to the planet heaven”, said the migration officer.

This planet nicknamed heaven, due to its healthy atmosphere, was everyone’s choice.
“Why?”
You are infected with a zombie virus.
“Do you doubt medical clearance of my planet”.
No, but probably this was in your body in inactive state so went undetected and was activated during space flight.
“You have an inactive viral DNA in your body”, words of medical officer of his planet echoed in his ears, whom he bribed.
“Earthlings will also not let me enter the planet”, he thought and headed to an abandoned planet.

Preamble of the story

This story is based on a Indian mythological character “TRISHANKU”. Literal meaning of “TRISHANKU” is “suspended without support”. Trishanku was a very rich and powerful king. He wanted to go to heaven alive, with his human body. For this he requested a “RISHI VASHISHTH” to send him to heaven along with his human body, by his super natural powers. But RISHI VASHISHTH refused because it was against earth’s natural laws. So “TRISHANKU” contacted his rival “RISHI VSHVAMITRA”. RISHI VSHVAMITRA starts “YAGNA” and TRISHANKU was headed towards heaven, alive. On the gate of heaven, its king “INDRA” threw TRISHANKU out in the space. TRISHANKU started falling his head down. Looking this RISHI VSHVAMITRA stopped his fall. TRISHANKU is still suspended without support in the space with his head down.

Sorry, Great Grandpa

Marcos, standing in the balcony of his on thirty-sixth story flat, admired his wrinkle free skin even at the age of 410 years.

Scientists had discovered that shedding the chromosome ends was responsible for getting old which could be stopped by six monthly treatments.

Nobody was getting old or dying. World population soared.

Governments fixed the quota of the persons, families can have.

Birth of a child was allowed only after the death of a family member.

 Natural deaths didn’t exist.

“Sorry grandpa I desperately needed a child”, great grandson of Marcos apologized after throwing Marcos to ground from thirty-sixth story.

Preamble for this SF story

Our skin sags, our minds grow forgetful and our bodies begin to deteriorate with age. This is the natural degeneration process. By all means you would like to halt it and would like to live for 500, 600 or 1,000 years. It can be a reality in near future and the key may be with “Telomeres”, the DNA sequences attached at the ends of the chromosomes. Molecular biologist Elizabeth Blackburn, who shared 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for her research on telomeres says in her book “The Telomere Effect,” that you have more control over your own aging than you may imagine. You can actually lengthen your telomeres, and perhaps your life, by following sound health advice. With this and improving health scenario one day the death may be optional. Then what will happen to the government policies and interpersonal relations in the family?

Origin of Life

Dr Arvind Dubey

(101 word science fiction)

They were swimming in a moist and dark territory with overflowing vitality.
They were swimming as fast as they could.
Their life was very short and opportunity was rarest one.
The one, who will pierce the aim, will be the ultimate creator.
Only one will be the winner.
He was putting every bit of his life in his movements.
A crowd was behind him pushing him aside.
 He was bobbling.
He focussed his bleary eyes.
The last big lap…
He swam like mad, hit the target and fell lifeless.
Ultimately the sperm fertilized the egg; a new life was taking shape.

I Love You

Dr Arvind Dubey

(101 word science fiction)

"Did you call me", asked humanoid Rolet after entering national security officer Pamella's office.

"Come handsome, I want to tell you something very special."
"Really, then shoot,” Rolet smiled.
"Rolet I love you, would you....?
"Oh no, " Rolet's smile vanished. His graphene skin started melting, an explosion and Rolet fell on the floor,  dead.
On phone Pamella was explaining, "Yes sir Rolet was an implanted spy. The moment I gave that self destruction code “I love you” to him, it worked. He is liquidated.
She picked her bag and came out. Once again the conspiracy of neighbor country failed.
